Fishamble is an award winning Irish theatre company that produce over 50% of all new plays on the island of Ireland every year. Formed in 1988, it is named after the Playhouse on Dublin’s Fishamble Street which, in the 1780s, became the first theatre to commission and produce plays by Irish writers.

Fishamble has toured its productions to audiences throughout Ireland, and to 19 other countries.  It typically produces over 200 performances annually, from the Aran Islands to Auckland, Ballymun to Brisbane, Clonmel to Cleveland.

The logo concept is inspired by the flag system used by Shakespeares Globe Theatre in London. The Globe would hang a different colour flag from their roof, depending on what genre of play was being performed that day.
